The story of Finca La Esperanza or ‘the hope’ begins over 50 years ago with Don Eleodoro, who would trek four days by foot to buy coffee cherries from a farm and then walk five days back to sell them to a mill. Seeing the potential in this business, he bought Finca La Esperanza in 1953.
Aurelio, one of Eleodoro’s sons, grew up on the farm and, after a brief stint in school, returned to help out. His dream was to own his own farm, which he realized in 1986 with the purchase of Villaure, a name combining ‘Vill’ from Villatoro and ‘Aure’ from Aurelio. Since day one, Aurelio has been dedicated to producing high-quality coffee, earning numerous national and international awards.
After Don Eleodoro’s passing, Aurelio has taken over the management of La Esperanza while continuing to operate Villaure. Villaure has competed in the Cup of Excellence four times and has been honoured by Illy as the Best Farmer in Guatemala and Best Farmer in Huehuetenango.
