1870
birth of a family legacy
The late 1800s were a challenging time in Guatemala. The production of cochineal, a natural insect dye, was in decline due to industrialisation in Europe.
Amid this economic shift, my great-great-great-grandfather, Manuel Matheu Sinibaldi, secured a loan in 1870 to purchase land in Antigua. Determined to build a future in coffee, he later travelled to London to sell his first crop.
As a pioneer in Guatemalan coffee production, he became known as the 'grandfather of coffee' in Guatemala.

1979
a coffee love story
My parents' story began long before they even knew it. As children, they grew up on neighbouring coffee farms in El Salvador, where their families cultivated coffee side by side for generations.

2020
a Rascal is born
150 years and six generations later, I founded Rascal during another time of crisis—the pandemic. Before that, I had worked alongside my mother and sister, sourcing green coffee and collaborating with farmers across Guatemala.
